Breithaupt Family Photos

Aug. 19, 2015 --  had a visit from my cousin, Hannah (Helbling) Martin who is my cousin on my father's side; the daughter of his sister. She had some old family photos which she gave me. most of them were pictures of my father and/or sots of him and his sister,Virginia. There is also a nice formal portrait of my grandfather, Fred Breithaupt and one that is, for me, very enlightening.

George Lemert

My full name is George Lemert Breithaupt, named for my father and great grandfather. I had always been told the name Lemert was the name of and old family friend. One of the pictures is a shot of my father and my aunt with George Lemert. So there is the "legend: in the flesh, so to speak.
My cousin was in from Colorado to visit her mother, Virginia  who lives in Dresden OH and is going on 100! I told her I would get a digital voice recorder before her next visit and would talk to er and get some of the stories she gets from her mother. This is something I regret not doing with my parents and several aunts and uncles.
A sad note to this mpost. My Aunt Virginia passed away peacefully just a couple of weeks short of her 100th birthday. R.I.P. Aunt Virginia. Say hello to Dad if you are in the same place!!!

Apple Valley Fireworks

The evening of July 4, 2015, I was the guest of  my friend Mike McClain and his family at the Apple Valley fireworks display in Knox County, Ohio. We sat across the lake from the display and got some great shots. We also had a sort of cook out before hand

4th of July, 2015

July 4, 2015 was a pretty busy day for me! It started about 10:30 in the morning when my aide helped me wheel up the hill into downtown Gambier, all 2 blocks of it. Gambier has the only 4th of July parade in Knox County. What it lacks in size it makes up for in enthusiasm! Before the parade begins there is a program which begins with Mayor Kirk Emmert reading several proclamations, the reading of several patriotic poems and an essay by the Mayor,a professor at Kenyon College, on the Constitution. The Gambier Citizen of the Year was then announced. This year's recipient was P.F. Kluge, writer and - as explained by the mayor-town gossip!!!
The parade itself is made up of about half the residents of Gambier with the other half watching. And a good time was had by all!!

The Knox (OH) County Fair July 2014

The last full week in July is the time for the Knox County Fair. it is one of a vanishing breed of true agricultural fairs. While there are the usual attractions, the rides, the rough truck competition among others, a large part of the fair is devoted to the projects of the 4-H club members, the Future Farmers of America and  The Granges (a movement that is dying out). Cows, steers, pigs goats, you name it they are there.
My good and long-time friend Mike McClain took me one night this year and we kind of limited ourselves to the Upper and Lower Midways and such. The animals were up the hill and that is quite a hill even if you have legs. I used to work for the Mount Vernon News and during fair week we practically lived out there. I could swear they had that hill in some kind of a jack and each night, after everybody was gone, they jacked up the hill about 10 feet. That's what it seemed like. I did that for 13 years!!!. Anyway here are a few of the photos I shot that night which included the great Ag Museum they have on the fairgrounds.. Forgot to mention that above!!! It was nice to be at the fair and enjoy it!!!

Infrared Photography - Black and White

I recently acquired a little Canon Powershot S70 point and shoot that had been converted to shoot in the infrared part of the electromagnetic spectrum. It is just past the visible red part of the spectrum we can see. Although cameras can be converted to shoot "color" infrared using false color, this one merely shoots in black & White in what is called the deep infrared, 850nm for the geeks<G>
I have made several excursions in my immediate neighborhood and here are a few examples of my work.
